There will be a need for some minor works for testing and flushing especially in the Cowley Road pedestrian corridor in a few weeks’ time, and whilst the width may be reduced in very limited areas, the pedestrian and cycle path will remain open.
After the final inspection from the Highways and sign off by early morning on Monday 3 February, the pedestrian and cycle path will be reopened by early mid-afternoon. The delay with the reopening has been due to wet weather prior to Christmas and in January.
There will be a need for some minor works for testing and flushing especially in the Cowley Road pedestrian corridor in a few weeks’ time, and whilst the width may be reduced in very limited areas, the pedestrian and cycle path will remain open. The Histon Road project which aims to provide better bus, walking and cycling facilities for those travelling on this busy key route into Cambridge started this week. Construction on the new layout for the Histon Road/Victoria Road/Huntingdon Road junction will start from 31 January, both with temporary traffic signals in place between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. Histon Road will remain open throughout these phases of work. For details regarding planned work in the area, please see here.
The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) launched a consultation for Madingley Road last week, which seeks views on two options for cycling and walking improvements.
Option 1: provides one-way cycleways on both sides of Madingley Road which would be semi-segregated from the general traffic. No access to any land will be required. Option 2: provides a two-way cycleway on the north side of the road and a one-way cycleway on the south side. Cycleways will be segregated from general traffic by landscaping strip between Madingley Road Park and Ride and Eddington Avenue. Access to some land from third parties will be required. For more information on the consultation and the layouts, please see Document Library here. Have your say on the public consultation which is open until 2 March. Network Rail launched a public consultation last week which is open until 2 March on proposals for a new railway station and associated infrastructure in the south of Cambridge.
The proposals for the new station include:
The new station is proposed to be built in the vicinity of the growing Cambridge Biomedical Campus to improve connectivity in the Cambridgeshire region and improve accessibility for patients and visitors to Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth hospitals. The new station would also provide better connections to proposed new housing development across the southern fringe of the city. Subject to gaining the necessary funding and consent, work could start on the station in 2023 with a target of station opening in 2025. The public will be invited to attend consultation events to comment on the proposals being put forward which includes three possible location options and early designs for the station and possible access. To find out more about these planned consultation events, please see here. |
