Ely Southern Bypass is on track and will be open to traffic on Wednesday 31 October. The new road will connect the A142 at Angel Drove to Stuntney Causeway and will provide a huge boost for the area and will ease congestion in and around Ely. The scheme includes a 1.7km long single carriageway road, including a viaduct crossing the Great Ouse and bridges over two railway lines. The road will solve long-standing problems and reduce journey times for drivers. The area around Ely station is heavily congested with lorries and other larger vehicles not being able to use the low underpass. Once the bypass has opened, work on the existing underpass at the low bridge will begin to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists until late November. For more details about the project, please see here.
We received notice from Whippet Coaches that they are deregistering the guided busway C service to St Ives and Fenstanton from Saturday 10 November. Alternative busway journeys between St Ives and Cambridge will be provided by Stagecoach services A, B and D.
Please note, it will not be possible to top-up a busway smartcard on Whippet or Stagecoach buses after Friday 9 November 2018 and these smartcards will not be accepted for travel on any service after 31 January 2019. For more information, see here. Busway timetable A, B and D will be amended to include Fenstanton at the start and end of some journeys following withdrawal of Whippet C. Departures from Fenstanton will be at 06:04, 06:34 and 07:04 (Monday to Friday), 08:00, 08:30, 09:00 and 10:00 (Saturday) and 08:21, 09:21 and 11:21 (Sunday). Arrivals in Fenstanton at 18:20 and 19:20 (Monday to Friday), 13:20, 14:20, 15:20, 18:20 and 19:20 (Saturday) and 17:00 and 17:50 (Sunday). The revised timetable will be available to view on Stagecoach’s website soon. For more information, see here. As the clocks go back an hour this Sunday, please remember to carry your bike lights. In the UK there are legal minimum requirements for cycling after dark; one front white light, one rear red light, plus the reflectors that should already be on your bike. It is important to remember that your lights must be working properly and your reflectors are clean and visible. For some our top tips, see here.
Abandoned and unused bikes will be removed from the Cycle Point during October and November to free up space and enable a deep clean. If you do not use your bike on a regular basis please remove it otherwise it could be removed by Greater Anglia’s clean up team. Bikes that appear to be abandoned and unused will be tagged for a 15 day period. After that period the bike will be removed and taken to storage for a 90 day period. For more information, see here.
From 31 October, Smart Cards will replace Greater Anglia paper season tickets. When you renew, you will need to switch to a Smart Card. To find out more, see here.
