Temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm, weekdays only. Outside of working hours, all the lights at the junction will work as normal. The junction works are set to take place for 18 weeks (early June) and then there will be partial road closures along King’s Hedges Road to Gilbert Road. For more information regarding planned work in the area, please see here.
Work on the Greater Cambridge Partnership's Histon Road project started on Monday 3rd February, with traffic management at the junction of Histon Road with Victoria Road and Huntingdon Road.
The minor works in the Cowley Road pedestrian/cyclists path will commence in late March and will last for 3-4 weeks. The works will be done in two parts i.e. to keep one half of the corridor open at any one time with localised barriers erected and diversion signage. Please note, the duration of the works is subject to satisfactory chlorination results which are obviously very thorough so the contractor has to wait on test labs for the series of results etc. Cycle and pedestrian access will be locally restricted but will be maintained. Access will still be provided via the Cambridge Business Park side-gate. The contractor will start the reinstatement works within the station square outside Cambridge North Station (CNS) on or around June of this year. These works will involve the eventual removal of site hoardings to reopen the frontage outside the hotel and complete the external hard landscaping as part of the final scheme. In parallel they will also coordinate the removal of the temporary tarmac surfacing in the station square itself and to replace with the original paving. These works will affect accessibility in the square itself. The contractor will prepare method statements to confirm the phasing and sequencing of this work in order to maintain access to the station and disabled parking. This may affect / limit taxi access and drop off facilities short term. The shuttle service access will be maintained and locally adjusted as before. Pedestrian and cycle access will not be affected in this period.
Based on the public consultation which was held in the summer of 2019 where 2,311 people gave their feedback on the Busway, Stagecoach have analysed the data and will be rolling out some changes in Spring 2020. Some of these changes include:
The Busway A and Busway B have switched at certain sections of the route: Busway A will now serve Orchard Park, the Busway B will now serve Science Park, CNS and Cambridge Main Station. Further details on the above changes can be found here. Work on the UK’s first Dutch-style roundabout is progressing despite extra utility work being needed. Additional significant utility work, which was not originally envisaged, means the scheme that will improve road safety by giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists, will now not be completed until early summer.
