Free Parking at Park & Ride Sites From 1 April

29/3/2018

Picture
The £1 parking fee at Park & Ride sites are being removed from Sunday 1 April to encourage more people to get out of their cars and use greener and more sustainable modes of transport to travel into Cambridge city centre. The seven sites are those at Babraham Road, Madingley Road, Milton, Newmarket Road, Trumpington, Longstanton and St Ives.
The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) and Cambridgeshire County Council agreed to split the cost of the shortfall from the removal of the parking charge, with the GCP contributing £530,000 for an initial three year period. This arrangement will be reviewed after three years.

A key aim of the GCP, working within the Combined Authority’s strategic transport strategy, is to make travelling by sustainable means – public transport, cycling or walking – in and around Cambridge an attractive option for more people, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality.

There have been a number of improvements made at the sites in recent months to make it easier for people to access the bus services. Some of which include:

100 new cycle lockers have been installed to enable cyclists to securely store their bikes and hop on the bus to travel into the city, and further lockers will be installed in the coming months.

There is also no longer a need to queue at a machine for a travel ticket, as passengers can buy all their tickets from the bus driver - as all buses now accept contactless payments as well as cash.

Bar Hill Bridge Closure (Junction 29) from 3 April to 10 April

29/3/2018

Picture
From 0930 on Tuesday 3 April, Highways England will be closing the bridge over the A14 at Bar Hill for 7 days, until 1700 on Tuesday 10 April. This closure will allow Highways England to finish the construction of temporary slip roads, which will connect to the existing bridge, and start building the new bridges as part of the new Bar Hill junction. The existing A14 eastbound off-slip at Hatton’s Road and the existing A14 eastbound on-slip from Hatton’s Road will be replaced by new temporary slip roads. The temporary slip roads will be in use until Summer 2019. This work has been scheduled during the Easter school holidays to minimise disruption to your journey.

If you regularly use the existing bridge over the A14 you will need to follow diversions, see here for more information.

29/3/2018

Picture
As part of the Greater Cambridge Partnership plans to improve the infrastructure in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire, they have identified three strategies which will help deliver faster, more reliable and high-quality public transport links for journeys to the south east of Cambridge.

All three long-term strategies include bus priority, junction improvements, walking and cycling measures and road safety improvements along the A1307 between Haverhill and Cambridge. It is intended to progress these works, subject to consultation as quickly as possible.

The consultation is open until Monday 9 April, please click here for the survey link.

Picture
Following the announcement from the Department for Transport (DfT) early this week, County Council are set to receive an extra £1.6m to tackle road repairs in Cambridgeshire. This will be added to the £3m which the County have already committed to spend on pothole repairs and resurfacing roads.
