Changes to the Train Timetable from 20 May

27/4/2018

Picture
The new Great Northern and Great Anglia train timetable starts on Sunday 20 May 2018 and continues until 8 December 2018.

The new Great Northern train timetable will be in operation on all routes from Sunday 20 May andthe times of every train will change. This will affect trains between Peterborough, Kings Lynn, Ely, Cambridge and London, and those that go on to Gatwick and Brighton. The new timetable forms part of ‘Rail Plan 2020', an ambitious programme to create a more reliable service and extra capacity in the morning peak for 40,000 more passengers from across the network into London, with further expansion to 60,000 by the end of 2019.

Network Rail have not yet finished loading the full timetable to journey planners. However, to allow you to check your new train times as soon as possible, they have produced PDF timetables showing the full service.

Top Three Money-Savers for Savvy Train Travellers

27/4/2018

Picture
Recent research from Greater Anglia has revealed that more than a fifth of people are not aware of the various train ticket types available, with travellers potentially losing out on significant savings as a result. Of those surveyed, 2 in 5 people were similarly unaware of the special ticket offers, which range from savings of more than 30% on group travel, to journeys into the capital from just £10.

Greater Anglia has identified the top three money-savers for savvy train travellers looking for the best value:

Group Save: Planning a day out with friends or family? Take advantage of GroupSave and get 1/3 off all fares for groups of three to nine adults travelling together Off-Peak. Available online or at any station across the Greater Anglia network.

Advance Fares: By purchasing an Advance ticket, you can choose the best time to travel at the lowest available fare. Available up to three months before travel. Tickets are priced as single leg fares from £7 one way from Cambridge and from £5 one way from Southend.

Off Peak Returns: Greater Anglia’s range of Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak tickets can offer great savings. The Off-peak Return is valid on the date shown for the outward journey, but offers a month’s window for the return, perfect for a longer trip. For London journeys, they also allow for completion of late evening returns, with validity until 0430 the next morning.

Other options include the Off-Peak Day Return which has no PM restrictions from London, and the Super Off-Peak Day Return which has PM restrictions but offers even greater value - allowing for complete flexibility for all budgets when travelling by rail.

Free Bus Passes for Older and Disabled People

27/4/2018

Picture
Bus passengers aged over 65 or with a disability have been entitled to travel free of charge on any off-peak local service in England since 2007, thanks to the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme. The government has now amended legislation so that it no longer needs to be reviewed every 5 years. New regulations will ensure millions of older and disabled people up and down the country can continue to make use of buses to go about their daily lives.
In addition to the bus pass scheme, the government provides £250 million every year for bus services in England, £40 million of which helps to fund routes that may not be commercially viable but which are considered socially necessary - ensuring people are connected with their local services and communities.

Arbury Road Cycleway - Update

27/4/2018

Picture
Next phase of the cycleway from Mere Way to Mansel Way begins on Monday 30 April and will continue until autumn. The works will be carried out between 0800-1700, Monday to Friday. Temporary traffic lights will be in place to provide a safer working space for the contractor.

During the construction phase the Citi 1 bus will be diverted throughout the works in both directions along Mansel Way and Alex Wood Road. The two bus stops on Arbury Road near Nicholson Way, and the two bus stops on Mere Way near Ellesmere Road, will be suspended for the duration of the bus diversion. People are asked to use the bus stops in Campkin Road and Carlton Way while the diversion is in place.
