Figures show 29% of trips in and around the city are made by people on bikes and numbers are rising year on year. The cycling network across Greater Cambridge is set to expand further in 2018, as the County Council and GCP are together investing millions of pounds to encourage more people to travel by two wheels instead of four in a bid to reduce congestion on the roads. Cambridgeshire County Council and the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) will be working together with sustainable transport charity Sustrans to produce reports capturing data on infrastructure, travel habits, public attitudes and the impact of cycling as part of the Bike Life initiative. Bike Life, founded in 2014, has been used to develop cycling strategies, justify investment and delivery of schemes, support air quality plans, and demonstrate the benefits of cycling. The reports, due to be published in 2020 and 2022, will help to build the case for a better cycling framework and inform planning at a local level whilst shaping the funding landscape for active travel across the UK.

The £6million project aims to encourage more people to use alternative sustainable modes of transport in order to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
The events will be held on the following dates: Wednesday 30 May - St Andrew’s Centre, School Hill, Histon. 4-7pm. Wednesday 13 June - St Augustine’s Church and Hall, Richmond Road, Cambridge. 4-7pm. Tuesday 19 June - Chesterton Community College, Gilbert Road, Cambridge. 5-8pm. The findings will be put before members of the Joint Assembly and Executive Board in the winter for determination. The public consultation runs between 21 May and 2 July. For more information on the consultation, see here Cambridge residents are invited to have their say on potential new Resident Parking Schemes from Friday 11 May. Over the coming five years, Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) are looking at 26 potential areas across the city where a residential parking scheme could work. Schemes for Accordia and Staffordshire have already been approved and will be implemented in Summer 2018.
CCC are currently conducting a formal consultation for a residential parking scheme in Ascham and in Victoria. Both of these consultations will close on 14 June 2018. To submit your response to either consultation, see here With summer just around the corner, lunchtime walks organised by Travel Plan Plus will kick off from Wednesday 6 June once a week from 12:30pm - 1:15pm.
