Thank you kindly to Rory and Andrew for sharing your story for the Liftshare Week!
Having moved to Cottenham around 2 years ago, I was lucky enough to find we had lovely neighbours. What a coincidence to find that Andrew worked as my neighbour also on the Cambridge Science Park. We soon realised that we could benefit greatly by sharing lifts to work. Each of us would save on fuel, the stress of driving the morning commute and benefit our companies Abcam Plc and Toshiba Research Europe Ltd by supporting sustainable travel initiatives. I save around £8-10 a week on fuel and 0.25 tonnes of CO2 emission a year (that’s 0.5 tonnes for both of us). Occasionally we won’t be able to drive each other, but a combination of good communication, a guaranteed ride home scheme for car sharers provided by Abcam, and the option for cycle or bus if needs be, this doesn’t affect us in any significant way.
Thank you kindly to Rory and Andrew for sharing your story for the Liftshare Week! Liftshare week takes place nationwide each October to celebrate the social, financial and environmental benefits of car-sharing. This year, the Liftshare Week takes place from 2nd - 8th October, and Travel Plan Plus want to encourage all of you who are already sharing, as well as giving those of you that haven’t tried it yet the opportunity to give CamShare a go! We are certain that there’s someone for everyone to share with, so we’re offering a great incentive for everyone who tries out CamShare over the course of Liftshare Week.
Between the dates of 25th September – 15th October anyone who visits www.camshare.co.uk to get in touch with another member via a message or a share request will be entered into a prize draw to win £250*. It’s that simple. And to say ‘thanks for sharing’, those of you already in a Liftshare team will be automatically entered, too. This offer applies to all of our members, whether you have been using the scheme for a while, or if you are completely new! If you haven’t yet joined CamShare you can do so now absolutely free! Visit CamShare and follow the instructions to register and add your journey details. Then search for a match, get in touch and get sharing! You don’t have to Liftshare every day, even sharing once a week with someone makes a big difference. You’d be surprised how much the benefits add up over time; we’re talking financial savings (drivers can make back up to 100% of their fuel costs by sharing), as well as reducing your carbon footprint and decreasing congestion and parking pressures. Plus you might make some great new connections! Early this week the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) launched our ‘big conversation’ which is about you having your say on how the future of the Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire is shaped in a way that solves issues you want to solve, improves services you want to improve and creates the right opportunities for you, your family or your business.
The GCP, an academic-business-civic economic growth consortium, has been successful in securing up to £1billion in funding to 2030 to help create the right conditions to keep Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire a successful and thriving city region. This is an opportunity to hear more from the GCP on the local growth story and engage with developing further solutions in transport infrastructure, skills, housing and ‘Smart’ technology. GCP are interested to hear your honest views, and they will be at community centres, shopping malls, supermarkets and transport hubs right across the area over the next few weeks ready to listen to them – and if you cannot make it to those venues, we’d love to hear your views online or by post until the end of November. The GCP team will also hold a workshop at the Cambridge Science Park on 20th October and more information is on the Upcoming Event below. During October, and in association with Travel for Cambridgeshire (TfC), a ‘big travel survey’ will be launched seeking information on people’s travel habits, preferences and priorities, to supplement existing data for decision-making. The online survey will open from Monday 9th to Sunday 29th October 2017 and more information will soon be available on TfC’s website. Further information on our Big Conversation and events near you, click here. This year ‘Travel to Work Survey’ will be open to all the Travel Plan Plus (TP+) members from Saturday 14th to Friday 20th October including those organisation who have confirmed to participate. Please do encourage your staff to complete an online survey which will ask your employees how they travelled to work between Saturday 7th to Friday 13th October, providing a ‘snapshot’ of employee travel habits. Annually for the past eight years TP+ has gathered data from employers across the TP+ area on how their staff travel to work, how far they travel and how long it takes.
The reports that come from this information helps us and you monitor the effectiveness of your travel initiatives and how changes in Cambridgeshire’s ever changing transport system effect people. Over the years we have seen a shift away from single occupancy car journeys with cycling, walking and public transportation taking up the slack as congestion becomes more and more of a pressing concern as people try to get into work. This year sees a wider range of employers than previous years as it encompasses small (2 employees) to large (500+ employees) companies from both parks. CycleSmith will be at the Cambridge Science Park first Monday’s of each month starting from 2nd October to provide full servicing and maintenance of standard and electric bikes. CycleSmith sell a wide range of bicycles from own brand Rys cycles, custom build and even electric bicycles. So whether you a have a puncture that needs fixing or are looking for a new bicycle come and speak to Martin who will be located behind the Innovation Centre rear carpark from 9am until late.
The Stagecoach Bus App allows you to plan your journey to get from A to B with ease.
