29/11/2019

Picture
The 2019 Annual Travel to Work Survey ran from Monday 7th October to Sunday 13th October, collecting data on how employees commute to work over one week. This year 130+ organisations within the Travel Plan Plus (TP+) area - Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge Business Park and St John’s Innovation Park took part in the survey, resulting in 3,000+ valid responses. The data is currently being analysed.

Congratulation to Emma Hunter from Astex Therapeutics who won the first prize of the TP+ Annual Survey prize draw of £100 John Lewis gift card. Dimitrios Mavridis from Qualcomm who came second and Peter Jupp from Cambridge Consultants who came third both each won £50 John Lewis gift cards (photos left to right). Once again thank you to everyone who completed the survey for us.

New A14 Bypass Opens on 9 December

29/11/2019

Picture
The new 12-mile bypass to the south of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire will open to traffic on Monday 9 December, a full year ahead of schedule. The new bypass will run between Ellington and Swavesey and is part of a £1.5 billion project to upgrade 21 miles of the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon.

The map above shows how you can join and leave the new bypass, and which junctions have been renumbered.

What to expect:
  • At junctions, it is not always possible to join or leave the new road in all directions. This is to help discourage long distance traffic from using smaller, unsuitable roads through local communities.
  • All A14 junctions east of and including Girton, as well as the A1 junctions, will maintain their existing junction numbers.
  • Drivers travelling eastbound on the new bypass will still have to join a section of 40mph, narrow lanes roadworks from the Swavesey junction. Please look out for the signs as you approach.
  • Slow moving vehicles are prohibited from using the new bypass and will be directed to alternative local access roads.
  • Variable speed limits displayed on overhead gantries will help to reduce congestion and ensure safety.

What happens next?
The upgraded section of the A1 between Alconbury and Buckden opened earlier this year, which means that the western section of the upgraded A14 is now complete.

Work on the rest of the project, between Swavesey and Milton, continues and is on schedule to be completed as planned by December 2020. The work Highways are carrying out at Huntingdon including the removal of the old viaduct over the railway line, will complete after this. For more information on this project, please visit

Picture
The Multi-Utility Trench corridor to Cowley Road (i.e. cycle and pedestrian route) are still on track to complete and reopen on 20 December. However, if anything is discovered this may delay the reopening date. This will also include the reopening of the pedestrian access route from the Business Park directly onto that route and the pedestrian route and cycle path alongside Milton Avenue. This will reopen direct pedestrian and cycle access from Milton Road itself down to the station square.
