Westbound traffic coming from Milton and Histon wishing to continue on the A14 will now need the RIGHT-hand lane. Traffic continuing on A428 will need the LEFT-hand lane. After a number of false starts, the new A14 westbound to westbound link at Girton (replacing the cloverleaf) finally opened last night (Thursday 19).
Westbound traffic coming from Milton and Histon wishing to continue on the A14 will now need the RIGHT-hand lane. Traffic continuing on A428 will need the LEFT-hand lane. Please remember the lanes required for A14 and A428 will have swapped over. There will be signs, so please follow these and not your sat-nav. Due to weather conditions over the last few days, the re-opening of the cycle and footpath on Cowley Road has been delayed and it will now be sometime in January, weather permitting.
The bus stop on the guided bus route (i.e. the drop off opposite the station) will be temporarily closed and relocated to the south end of the cycle park from Monday 6 January for two weeks while contractors operate a mobile crane from the section of the road opposite the original bus stop. The original drop off zone for shuttle users will be reopened in early February as the diversion works would be completed by then. From week commencing 23rd to 31st December, there will be weekend service and no service during the bank holidays. Normal service will resume from Thursday 2 January 2020. For more information, please visit here.
As part of A14 Cambridge to Huntington upgrade work, Highways England have been widening the bridge at Impington near Histon and the busway route under the bridge has been closed temporarily.
Last month, Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) announced with Highways England that some repairs would be needed to the busway track following some damage from their sheet piling work. CCC also explained some further closures of the cycle path would be required in the New Year to carry out these repairs. The busway track needs to be made safe before buses can run on it again, these repairs will begin on Monday 6 January and will last for approximately one month. CCC have worked hard with Highways England to keep the cycle path open when possible, however, during this repair work the maintenance track will be closed. For people using the Guided Busway maintenance track, please follow the signed diversion route via Cambridge Road (Impington), B1049/A14 roundabout, Histon Road, Kings Hedges Road and back on the Orchard Park busway path. Buses going into Cambridge (southbound) between Histon and Orchard Park East will continue to be diverted via the Histon junction over the A14. People travelling into Cambridge from Histon can board diverted services from the stop on Cambridge Road. If your journey to work is on a cycle, always remember to be visible in the dark and avoid wearing dark clothing this winter. Always wear reflective or bright clothing when on the road. Travel Plan Plus is giving out hi-vis vests, size ranges from small to large and hi-vis pannier covers to cyclists. These will be available from w eek commencing 13 January from your reception area.
Here's wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us here at TP+! We hope you enjoy the time you'll be spending with your loved ones!
