Our staff are currently located across a number of interim sites across Cambridge whilst our new home at Cambridge Biomedical Campus continues to grow by the day. With many of our staff relocating to the area, the biggest challenges the organisation faced were integrating into a City with well-known transport challenges and becoming a good neighbour, whilst also ensuring we helped our staff navigate the city and find their way to and from work in the most efficient way possible.
The organisation have implemented a number of different approaches over the year including a fully operational pool bike scheme with over 40 bikes. Cycling infrastructure at our sites has also adapted to meet these demands including the introduction of our first Brompton Dock; cycle maintenance hubs; shower and change facilities at all sites and cycle storage lockers at Park and Ride sites. We have also endeavoured to help staff via public transport including offering out ‘Taster Tickets’ on the buses to allow our staff to “try before they buy”. We have also started producing our own Personalised Travel Plans for staff which give us a much needed exchange between the Travel Team and the employee.
Travel isn’t without its challenges, we continue to look at the ways in which our car parks operate and how our staff use the spaces within them. One of the major challenges has been striking the balance between supply, demand and our organisational targets. This is something which will keep being developed over the next year to fully realise the modal potential within AstraZeneca.
Travel Plan Plus is a great help, providing a much needed link between ourselves and the County Council. Whenever we need resources for our sites such as cycle maps, bus timetables and local knowledge, the team are always happy to help to provide this in a quick and friendly fashion.
