One of our recent initiatives has included designing and manufacturing branded cycle wear. We had three types of cycle wear made and every employee that cycles to work more than half the year was entitled to one item. This has been a huge success and well received by our cyclists.
Abcam has worked closely with Liftshare and now has launched Abcam’s own car sharing website to promote and encourage car sharing through the business.
As part of our wellbeing programme we have included lots of fun cycle events such as a cycle cinema, the watt bike, a cycle challenge and a Brompton bike event. Our cycle to work scheme is now open to employees once every two months instead of annually and alongside this we have also hosted cycle seminars outlining safe cycling and cycle maintenance. We have recently refurbished our showers in all our buildings so providing better facilities to cyclists, runners and walkers.
Travel to work is now embedded into our new starter induction programme and we have a sustainable travel to work monthly prize draw for all employees that travel to work sustainably.
We are currently considering season ticket loans for bus and train use; we hope to roll this out later this year.
While we continue to encourage sustainable travel to work at our current location on the Cambridge Science Park, we are already making future plans to support this initiative in our new building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have incorporated drying rooms, numerous showers, storage facilities and ample bike storage in our new building design.
