The ‘low level’ advanced traffic signals is funded by the Greater Cambridge Partnership and are being installed by Cambridgeshire County Council in the coming weeks. These advanced signals will allow cyclists to move off before other traffic to improve road safety. Signals in Regent Street will also have new technology added to lengthen the time of the green light for cyclists coming off from Parker’s Piece during busy periods.
The GCP installed ‘low level’ signals at the junction of Arbury Road and Campkin Road in 2019 and is looking at the potential for adding more cycle-friendly signals around Greater Cambridge. These signals are also located in Castle Street and Magdalene Street which were installed in 2013.
